Sustainability policy
This policy supports South West Communications Group’s environmental policy and aims to identify how we define sustainability and give direction to how we intend to ensure sustainability within our operations.
We define sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In meeting our own commitment to sustainability as a service provider, we break our commitment down into various areas.
We recognise that we have direct control over our impact on sustainability with our internal processes and areas where we can control our impact include:-
Training and awareness
-
Environment awareness is contained within all of our health and safety courses.
Waste
-
We are committed to the hierarchy of waste control: ReduceReuseRecycle-Responsibly dispose
-
Waste minimisation is a key part of our waste policy
-
We are registered under the Waste Electric & Electronic Equipment Directive as a licensed disposer
Vehicles
-
Our fleet is predominantly diesel powered as we recognise that diesel engines are more efficient than petrol engines
-
We use low sulphur fuel in our diesel vehicles
-
Our vehicles are regularly serviced to maintain optimum efficiency
-
Route planning is under taken to ensure reduced waste
-
Use of remote workers to reduce vehicle use
Resource usage reduction
-
Our facilities are actively reducing our utility usage such as water, electricity and gas
-
Our offices are actively reducing the consumption of consumables such as paper, toner and inks
-
Purchasing ICT equipment with reduced energy consumption specifications
-
Purchase of the most efficient air conditioning equipment
-
Equipment switch off initiatives
We recognise we do not always have directive control over sustainability on our client sites; however, we work with our clients and their environmental & sustainability polices on their sites to mutually ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
