Data Centre services
South West Communications Group’s Data Centre provides dedicated server hosting and Internet access facilities including:
Co-located space - Co-location is provided through the rental of Data Centre cabinet space (ranging from 1U of useable space to multiples racks) as well as the electrical power and Internet bandwidth required to host your own server equipment supported by 24-hour monitoring.
Managed services - Our managed services include the rental of IBM, HP and Dell servers, firewalls, switches and storage area networks (SANs) together with cabinet space, electrical power and Internet bandwidth (connected to your equipment via 100BaseT or 1000BaseT connections). These all come with 24-hour monitoring and 24-hour support of server hardware and operating system software (Microsoft Windows) and managed firewall together with the option for automatic data backup.

Internet bandwidth - Bandwidth is available in 256Kbps to 500Mbps per connection. Unlike most hosting companies, there is no data transfer charge per month. Bandwidth can be utilised constantly at full capacity without additional charges and is allowed to burst above the set bandwidth in short bursts care of our percentile bursting option. Browser-based bandwidth utilisation statistics are also available to our customers. Our multiple Internet connections ensure that customers’ websites are always available.
ISP facilities - These facilities are provided by the Data Centre ranging from Internet access (including ADSL Max and leased line access options) to providing email, anti-virus, anti-spam scanning and shared web space. As well as providing a wires-only service, South West Communications Group offers managed router and firewall solutions to customer premises for a fully managed solution.

Virtualization - Virtualization allows our customers to run multiple operating systems on a single piece of hardware. So instead of using separate servers for websites, databases, etc, these can be run from one server to help keep capital costs down. Depending on the type of application and usage profile, consolidation ratios of 10:1 can be achieved. South West Communications Group offers a range of virtualization options to allow you to get the most from your hardware resources.
Data backup - Our own solution, known as storeiP, gives support to Microsoft, Linux and Apple Mac operating systems as well as servers, desktop PCs and laptops. Data is backed up within the Data Centre or to a remote location via the Internet using latest encryption techniques. This automatic daily backup facility is available in 5GB increments with no upper limit on disk space and no limit to the number of backups made each day. It is operated via a user-friendly graphical user interface that contains quick and easy restore features.

Remote hands - Our engineers’ expertise is also available for occasions when our customers cannot make the journey to the Data Centre. Our team of highly trained engineers will carry out any necessary work for you.
