The background
South West Communications Group provides St Minver Primary School with a modern, reliable telephony solution.
St Minver School, near Wadebridge, Cornwall, serves more than 200 children aged between 4 and 11. In addition to the standard subjects on the curriculum, it also offers quality coaching in sailing and surfing.
The challenge
St Minver’s legacy telephone system had become unreliable. As it was no longer maintained, faults could not be easily fixed thus risking possible downtime on what is a vital communications tool for any school.
Their reception staff were struggling with the amount of calls they had to deal with during the morning period when parents ring in to report pupils’ absence due to sickness. The high volume of calls meant that parents were often greeted with an engaged tone and had to ring in several times to report absenteeism, or were hindered from calling the school on other issues unrelated to pupil attendance.
St Minver was keen to replace their system in the 2-week holiday period at Christmas to limit any disruption to staff and parents.
The solution
South West Communications Group advised St Minver School to install a Toshiba CIX40 solution which included the following:
- Automated attendant to assist St Minver’s busy receptionists
- Voicemail for reporting staff or pupil absenteeism
- Recorded information to callers on sports fixtures, school trips and special events
- Individual voicemail accounts for staff members
- Tannoy announcements for emergencies
- Restricted calling access to control costs
- On-site full training
