The background
South West Communications Group provides West Somerset Council with a high quality voice and data wide area network (WAN) integrated with its data centre to take advantage of its highly resilient infrastructure.
West Somerset Council serves a community that encompasses a large area including Exmoor National Park, the Quantock Hills area of outstanding natural beauty and the west Somerset coast. The Council operates out of a main head office in Williton and a customer centre in Minehead.
The challenge
West Somerset Council had been a long-standing telephony client of South West Communications Group when it began to implement its plans to rebuild its head office in Williton. The Council approached South West Communications Group for advice on this move and how best to implement an efficient and cost-effective voice and data network.
The solution
South West Communications Group was selected to install a new 2Mbps leased line from its industry-leading data centre in Exeter to West Somerset Council’s new headquarters. In addition, it provided a further two 2Mbps leased lines between the Council’s HQ and its Williton and Minehead sites as part of a single solution that provided the following:
- Leased lines
- Internet connectivity
- Network security
- VoIP telephony
