Morgan Sindall

The background

South West Communications Group provides Morgan Sindall, formerly know as Morgan Ashurst, with a telephony solution that is being rolled out both to its regional offices and to its site offices which in many cases, incorporates point-to-point microwave connections.

Morgan Sindall is a leading full-service construction business with more than 2,000 employees in the UK. The company is supported by a national network of local offices and works for private and public sector clients on projects ranging from £50,000 to more than £300 million, including small works, repair and maintenance services to large-scale complex projects. Morgan Sindall's head office is in Rugby, Warwickshire, with 28 regional offices across England and Scotland.

The challenge

South West Communications Group had provided telephony services to Yeovil-based construction company Bluestone for nearly 7 years until it was taken over by Morgan Sindall 4 years ago. This meant a rebranding process while Morgan Sindall's combined telephony estate had more than tripled overnight with a vast array of disparate systems within the group.

The nature of Morgan Sindalls’s business means that it frequently needs to set up temporary offices on construction sites and often at very short notice. As leased line connectivity is both expensive and time consuming with lead times of 2 months plus, Morgan Sindall was keen to find a single service communications company that would be able to their deliver voice, data and connectivity services quickly and cost effectively within these very short timeframes.

The relationship that South West Communications Group had developed with Bluestone over many years stood it in good stead.

The solution

Site office telephone systems/fit outs are provided by South West Communications Group within just one week to accommodate Morgan Sindall’s needs. The deployment type depends on project length and type of site connectivity. South West Communications Group are typically provided with empty site cabins, where they install full local area network services for voice and data including cabling, data cabinets and switches together with telephony services either via standalone units or integrated to a regional office.

Point to point microwave connections are used to link construction sites to nearby regional offices up to 25km apart in a matter of days quickly and cost efficiently. This permanent connection completely private, reliable and robust and can be used where there is near line of sight between 2 sites.
