PamPurredPets

The background

South West Communications Group provides PamPurredPets with the business broadband service required to efficiently run its till network across 40 stores throughout the south of England and Wales.

PamPurredPets was founded in 1981 and has subsequently become the south’s largest independent high street pet store chain, specialising in food and accessories for dogs, cats, birds and small animals. Its 40 stores range in size from the smaller PamPurredPets Select stores, located in shopping centres and high streets, to large, out-of-town shopping venues. PamPurredPets now employs 250 people and is part of a larger buying group that includes Big H and Wilsons Pets.

The challenge

In 2005, PamPurredPets buying group was seeking a solution to reduce its high call charges. South West Communications Group were able to offer very favourable call tariffs as well as being able to adopt all of their existing telephone lines from a variety of different service providers to offer a comprehensive one-stop shop for all of their connectivity requirements.

Following the successful transition of all line and call services, PamPurredPets turned to its dedicated account manager for advice when they were considering the installation of a new till infrastructure for their stores which required high speed Internet access to allow purchasing data to be relayed back to head office every evening to keep account of sales and stock requirements.

As PamPurredPets wanted to roll this new till system out to all of its stores, it meant that each till needed to relay its data at a different preset time throughout the night one to ensure that the system could work efficiently. This process required a business class broadband provision.

The solution

South West Communications Group initially provided PamPurredPets with 8 business broadband lines to test their efficiency and reliability in operating the new till system. As a result of this successful trial, additional broadband services have been rolled out throughout the organisation - the entire solution included:

  • Over 40 ADSL Premium broadband connections with up to 8Mb download and 832kbps upload speeds
  • Consolidation of all of lines
  • Reduced costs
  • Web-based billing platform updated daily
  • High level SLAs with 24/7 helpdesk support
  • Ongoing service management
  • Toshiba CIX 100 telephone system for head office
