South West Communications Group provides Exeter City Council with a resilient data network together with server space in its industry-leading data centre.
Exeter City Council is responsible for a range of services in the city including the collection of council tax and business rates, providing housing and council tax benefits, managing elections, providing council housing, a range of environmental health services, parks, markets and halls, recycling facilities, car parks and residents’ parking, collecting refuse and street cleaning, deciding planning applications, managing the council's commercial properties, promoting the city for tourism and business, and supporting the arts, leisure facilities and museums, including the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.
The challenge
Exeter City Council required a high-speed, resilient Internet connection as their legacy network had become faulty and unreliable and the entire Council required an increased level of Internet bandwidth connectivity to keep in step with its growing needs.
They also wanted to move 1 of their servers to a local data centre to make more secure and accessible to their users. In addition, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum needed a hosting option for its website
