South West Communications Group provides Landmark Solutions with a bespoke caged co-location solution for a project that required the highest level of security.

Landmark is based in Exeter and Henley-on-Thames and is the UK’s leading supplier of digital mapping, property and environmental risk information. Landmark has an unrivalled source of large scale current and historic digital maps, together with high quality environmental risk and planning information.

Landmark Solutions is the specialised geospatial services division of Landmark, supplying a wide range of integrated geographic information solutions and data to both public and private sector organisations.

The challenge

Landmark was already a long-term customer of South West Communications Group having been provided with a disaster recovery solution for the corporate arm of the business. As such, Landmark Solutions asked for South West Communications Group’s assistance again when it become involved in a Government department project that required the utmost in security.

The servers and data for this project had been hosted at an alternative data centre but the Government was not entirely satisfied by the service it had received. Therefore Landmark Solutions turned to South West Communications Group to suggest an alternative solution.

The solution

The caged co-location and a wide area network (WAN) solution proposed and implemented by South West Communications Group comprised:

•    Bespoke, secure floor to ceiling caged area for multiple servers
•    Gradual migration of the data held on the servers at the incumbent data centre
•    A leased line WAN network
•    An isolated, secure working environment for Landmark’s support team
•    A strategic, long-term relationship
