Local area networks
Local area networks, or LANs, link network devices such as PCs and printers together to allow communication typically within a single site that may include multiple buildings
South West Communications Group has the experience to design, deliver and maintain LAN solutions that are most suited to individual company’s needs using market-leading switch and router solutions from Cisco and Alcatel-Lucent.
LANs can be used purely to support data or can be utilised to take advantage of the cost savings that come with transporting voice calls using Voice over Internet Protocol technology. Wireless LANs (WLANs) can provide mobility in the workplace to enable users to access data and the Internet wherever they are on site. The flexibility and freedom of WLANs can also be of benefit to organisations in terms voice communications whereby users with portable WiFi handsets can roam anywhere on site that has WLAN coverage (known as voice over WLAN)
Security is always uppermost in South West Communications Group’s LAN designs in terms of how users gain access to the network and what areas of the network they are permitted to use. For certain industries, security may also be required to meet regulatory requirements. Security needs to be considered from both a network security and information security perspective. Network security focuses on securing the network from unauthorised external access, whereas information security aims to secure information sources from unauthorised access by focusing on confidentiality, integrity and availability of an organisation’s information.
South West Communications Group can design security protection utilising the latest technology in firewalls, intrusion detection and protection systems, encryption as well as Internet security and anti-virus software. Key to this is often the ability to allow secure remote access to the company LAN to enable remote working for both data and voice.
Our team of LAN experts will evaluate an organisations’ existing network provision, offer advice and design the most suitable LAN infrastructure to suit the immediate and future needs of the business taking into account any future growth plans. South West Communications Group’s certified engineers project manage and oversee the entire installation followed by bespoke training for all system administrators.
