South West Communication Group takes regional Prince's Trust Prize

South West Communications Group has won the race to raise the most money in the region in its recent Million Makers push for the Prince's Trust.

The Exeter-based communications company was competing against Ernst & Young and the Royal Bank of Scotland, both based in Bristol and two mixed teams from Exeter and Plymouth made up from staff from Devon County Council, the Rural Payments Agency, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Fire Service to become the highest fundraisers for the Prince's Trust in the south west.

Million Makers is an annual drive that sees teams from across the UK compete against each other to raise the most money for the charity that helps young people into work, while also enhancing team-work, leadership and communication skills.

South West Communications Group, along with the other teams had been targeted by the trust to raise £20,000 for the Prince's Trust, but the group actually exceeded this total by more than 50 per cent and raised £31,000.

The final total was revealed at a presentation held at the Southgate Hotel in Exeter with South West Communications Group beating their nearest competitors by more than £10,000.

The final hoorah of its Prince's Trust schedule was the ball at Sandy Park, which had been preceded by a whole host of other fundraising events, including car washing, mufti days, scrap metal and mobile phone collection, the Exeter Chiefs naked calendar plus match day car parking and bucket collections, a barn dance, sponsored slim, Have A Good Day...Off draw, Friday cake days, and a parachute jump from Dunkeswell Aerodrome.

South West Communications Group senior account manager Simon Dunstan was the chairman of the fundraising team and said: "My thanks must to all the committee members and staff who have participated and helped us raise this money during the last six months. Our aim was to not only to support the Prince's Trust but to also be the top fundraisers in the south west. It has been a really good team effort from everyone here."

Managing director Harry Langley and fundraising committee member said: "We are delighted to have reached won the regional Million Makers competition and to have exceeded our target by so much. We have all pulled together as a committee and as a company and it was pleasing to see how easily we did that."
