South West Communications Group’s chief executive and chairman Tony Rowe has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Exeter’s business community.
Mr Rowe, who received an OBE from the Queen in 2012, was presented with the award at the Express & Echo Exeter Business Awards 2014 held at Sandy Park.
The awards showcase companies and individuals who demonstrate entrepreneurial drive, innovation and dedication to providing a quality product or service.
Mr Rowe not only heads up South West Communications Group, which celebrated its 30th birthday last year, but is also CEO for Exeter Chiefs RFC and the Sandy Park Conference & Banqueting Centre while also supporting numerous local charities, in particular, the Exeter Foundation.
South West Communications Group’s managing director Harry Langley said: “Tony thoroughly deserves this award. He has been a central figure in the Exeter business world for more than 30 years offering employment to hundreds of people and serving the needs of hundreds of businesses while supporting many of the city’s worthy causes. Well done Tony.”
Mr Rowe said: “I don’t see myself as doing anything exceptional. I’m just like anyone else. I simply go to work, and I do my job while great people around me do their jobs. I believe Exeter is defined by its ‘can do’ attitude. I believe if you can take that as your approach, you can achieve great things whether it be in the boardroom or on the pitch.”
