South West Communications Group was one of the exhibitors invited to attend the inaugural Hi-Tech Forum Annual Conference held at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.

The conference was designed to bring together the major players in the South Devon Hi-tech industry for the first time.

Nearly 200 people enjoyed a packed programme of seminars and speakers, and delegates were able to meet exhibitors from Hi-tech and related industries with the view to forming new links with each other and developing supply chains.

South West Communications Group’s sales director Sarah Flowers said: “The feedback from the senior account managers who attend this event was very positive in that they were able meet up with a number of existing customers and introduce themselves to a wide variety of businesses, manufacturers and other technical talent from the Torbay region. The event appeared to truly showcase the resources and expertise that exists in Devon and was successful in pinpointing the county as the centre of hi-tech excellence in the South West.”

Torbay Development Agency’s investment development officer Jason Buck said: “As a place to invest, Torbay has a lot to offer this sector and we are increasingly getting this message out through our networks in the Hi-tech sector and their related suppliers. This sector offers well-paid and fulfilling careers for young talented people so it is encouraging to see the education sector working in collaboration with the industry to make sure their future recruitment and skills needs are met.”

He added: “It is our aim to improve the economic prosperity for Torbay by generating better employment opportunities and we can only do this by attracting further investment from the key sectors that can benefit from such a location as ours. This event was a real landmark in our achievements towards this goal.”

Former newspaper journalist, Caroline joined the company in 2008 with no previous knowledge of the industry.

She set about stripping back all the jargon to produce plain English marketing collateral to support the sales teams. Now slightly more well-versed in the dark arts of voice, connectivity and data services, Caroline writes blogs, case studies, data sheets and social media updates to engage with potential and existing customers.

This industry is far cry from her previous working life when she worked as communications manager for Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints.
