South West Communications Group has been shortlisted for a national award in the wake of the work it is currently carrying out at North Bristol NHS Trust. The Exeter-based company has been named as a finalist in the Comms Business Awards category of Reseller of the Year (Large). The winner will be announced at an awards night on June 3 at The Lancaster London in Hyde Park.

South West Communications Group entered the multi-faceted solution it is rolling out for North Bristol NHS Trust, the fifth largest healthcare trust in the UK, for consideration by the communications business magazine’s panel of judges for this prestigious award.

The solution includes a new 7,000-user telephone system for the Trust’s two hospitals, Southmead and Frenchay, which incorporates a range of sophisticated applications including an interactive speech directory so patients can speak the name of the person they want to contact and be automatically put through, automatic appointment reminders, an alarm management system for potentially life-saving equipment, lone worker alarms, waiting room pagers and video conferencing.

This work will continue during the coming years as the Trust builds a digital ‘super hospital’ with the solution ultimately serving up to 9,000 members of staff across 200 sites, including community bases. It is part of the Trust’s continued drive to embrace technology in order to make the healthcare experience easier and more efficient for patients and staff.

Sarah Flowers, sales director of South West Communications Group, said: “"We are thrilled that our work has been shortlisted and recognised by the Comms Business Awards panel as a unique and worthy solution for the needs of a very large, modern and visionary health organisation. This continues to be a great team effort and let’s hope we can get to the top spot from the short list."

Former newspaper journalist, Caroline joined the company in 2008 with no previous knowledge of the industry.

She set about stripping back all the jargon to produce plain English marketing collateral to support the sales teams. Now slightly more well-versed in the dark arts of voice, connectivity and data services, Caroline writes blogs, case studies, data sheets and social media updates to engage with potential and existing customers.

This industry is far cry from her previous working life when she worked as communications manager for Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints.
