The Exeter-based telecommunications and data company has been the main club and first team sponsor for 17 years and has always been a supporter of a number Chiefs’ community projects, such as the annual School Sports Partnership Programme held at St Luke’s College.

At the start of last season, Exeter Chiefs set up a community department, Community Chiefs, to support the programmes it runs in the schools and colleges and the coaching it delivers to junior rugby clubs, as well as backing the work of charities in the city and its the surrounding areas.

South West Communications Group’s managing director Harry Langley said: “We believe it is important to support rugby in the community as such an investment is in line with our corporate responsibilities as a successful local company. We have supported various community rugby projects on an ad hoc basis in the past and wanted to formulise our relationship with the Community Chiefs with a more solid arrangement.

“The club’s community development managers, Keith Fleming and Tony Walker, have done a sterling job in setting up this department and continuing the excellent work that the club has always delivered to schools and rugby clubs in our area and we hope South West Communications Group can help this work grow and grow.”

Since the department was formally launched in 2008, it has been in touch with 65,000 youngsters through its school tag and masterclass programmes, healthy eating visits, charity appearances and its Super Saturday coaching sessions that come complete with a guided tour of Chiefs’ home ground Sandy Park.

Fleming said: “As a whole club, we are grateful for South West Communications Group’s ongoing support, and we are delighted Harry and the rest of the board have decided to back our particular department. They have been very generous in their support of some of our individual projects, but by investing in Community Chiefs as a whole, they have given us the stability to keep delivering quality coaching throughout the region.”
