Handsets

South West Communications Group provides a variety of handsets to suit the telephony solution provided and the business it serves. With more than 25 years’ of experience in designing and installing telephone systems, South West Communications Group can advise on the most suitable for each organisation’s needs from the following:

DECT cordless handsets - DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) handsets allow employees to continue to make and receive calls when they leave their desks. Using wireless technology, professional DECT phones are fully integrated with the telephone system whereby base stations are deployed across the site to provide full coverage ensuring that users are always in range and therefore always contactable to provide seamless voice access for people on the move while in the workplace. Improved accessibility means fewer missed calls, greater customer satisfaction, and increased staff efficiency.

A DECT phone can be associated with a desktop phone whereby both phones share a common phone number, the same level of service and the same level of features and functionalities as fixed desk handsets.

Digital handsets - Digital handsets offer a high range of advanced, accessible feature options, designed for the demanding needs of the business user. Such feature phones are high quality, robust and reliable, and provide a range of functionality to improve productivity and efficiency.

The latest generation of digital handsets suit small business environments through to complex call centre environments.

IP handsets - These handsets offer the same or enhanced functionality to their digital equivalent but are state-of-the-art telephones that make use of the data network using the power of Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). These operate via a dual Ethernet socket, with many businesses being able to use their existing data network to cost-effectively modernise their telephone system thus saving on network cabling requirements and costs. In addition, handsets can be easily relocated around a business’s premises by simply unplugging them and plugging them elsewhere on the network without the involvement of system administrators.

IP handsets retain the full feature set provided by digital models. They are, however, also able to offer additional services such as XML-based applications that could greatly enhance the user experience.

PC Softphones - PC softphone applications provide a very high level of telephone functionality via a laptop or desktop. Users with such an application connect to their central telephone system via an IP network (eg their Wide Area Network or the Internet to enable field-based staff to communicate as if they were in the office via a softphone and an Internet connection.

Wireless LAN (local area network) handsets - WLAN handsets are IP handset devices that connect wirelessly to an organisations data network to leverage the existing wireless infrastructure for both voice and data reducing the need for separate networks and the associated cost implications while giving users the maximum flexibility available.

As with DECT (see above) these handsets allow employees to continue to make and receive calls when they leave their desks thus improving accessibility, fewer missed calls, greater customer satisfaction, and increased staff efficiency.

WLAN handsets have enhanced durability and provide direct access to the dial-by-name and speakerphone features, and also come with interchangeable battery units to suit the most demanding organisations.

WLAN networks also provide the opportunity for fixed mobile convergence (FMC) which allows companies to integrate dual mode WiFi and GSM handsets devices into the organisation. This allows users to use the WLAN network when in reach of the coverage area and GSM when away from the organisations own network.
