Cornish Mutual relocates its business continuity and IP telephony solutions to swcomms' data centre to meet compliance needs.

Cornish Mutual offers insurance to individuals, farms and related business activities which are tailored to suit the individual needs of its members. The member services team is based in Truro, supported by insurance inspectors operating throughout Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.

Disaster recovery
Cornish Mutual wanted to improve its disaster recovery provision for the whole business and was searching for a venue to replicate its IT structure. As an insurance company, Cornish Mutual understood better than most how devastating data loss can be and, indeed, a temporary loss of premises. They wanted to ensure they had a business continuity plan in place so that they could continue to operate in the event of a disaster.

As a fellow south west-based business, swcomms was invited to offer their advice to the company following a timely call from our business development department. And the result was that we were able to offer a solution within our own data centre in Exeter. Our purpose built data centre was the first dedicated server hosting data centre in the south west of England. It offers a highly resilient infrastructure with no single point of failure. It also provides stringent security, controlled environmental conditions, clean power, fire prevention and network connectivity. The data centre is maintained by a networking and security team with years of experience managing and monitoring enterprise-level networks.

Data centre co-location
Cornish Mutual took a full cabinet in which to locate all of their replicated servers for their IT equipment. We have also distributed their ShoreTel telephone system across the two locations - their office and the data centre and provide ongoing maintenance and support as well as provision their ISDN line services. In addition, we were able to assist the company maintain compliance rules regarding the credit card payment details they take over the phone using their Exeter gateway. Companies like Cornish Mutual are regulated to meet PCI DSS security policies whereby they need to record these conversations but not retain the entirety of the credit card number.

swcomms also supported Cornish Mutual when they were selected as a call centre for Red Nose Day.
