5G connectivity is coming sooner than you think.

The year 2000 saw the release of the Nokia 3310 with a WAP browser and 3G so you could surf the web on your mobile device. It was 11 years later that 4G was launched across the UK with a promise of faster connectivity speeds for users on smartphones and tablets. 


Network providers have forged ahead to adopt the technology and improve our connectivity infrastructure. Last month, the UK saw 5G go live in Brighton in the hope there will be a full 5G rollout in 2020. Estimates suggest that 5G will be up to 10 times faster than the current 4G speeds. 


As the number of connected devices increases across the world, 4G has made it easier for people to download large files, utilise business applications and deliver virtual reality (VR). 


With the launch of 5G, O2 estimate new services and platforms will appear on the horizon and could boost UK productivity by £3 billion a year. The additional value could mean businesses who are thinking about leaving the UK, due to Brexit, to reconsider their move. 


The opportunities for businesses range from innovative software developers creating new exciting cloud solutions and VR applications to stadiums that can provide additional connectivity for increased engagement with their fans.
