Our small, but effective, marketing team works on a multitude of projects, spreadsheets, PowerPoints and images all stored within our secure corporate network.
Until a year ago, we used to keep a Word document in a central location and crowd around a computer to update it without the issue of one of us logging out of the document to make any changes or saving another version. This cumbersome task is still used by others today!
With all the functions and tools available in the marketplace, we still default to a Word or Excel document. If either of us worked from home, it became a tiresome series of calls or messages asking: "Can you come out of the document please?" to ensure we didn't overwrite each other’s work.
Even as I write that statement, I realise how archaic it sounds, but it’s a practice still used by different teams today.
Our move to shared documents stored within OneDrive has changed all that. With markers to show who is in the document, real-time editing and access available via desktop, mobile and tablet devices, our working habits have changed dramatically. This spurred us on to use Excel and PowerPoint in the same format. Now we are looking at OneNote, which can be used as our own reference tool for regular tasks or a place to remind us the results of a previous campaign and our suggestions for the next one! The sky’s the limit for our small marketing team.
With our team becoming busier than ever, time is precious so investing time in productivity tools is important. OneDrive is giving us even more versatility. By using shared documents, we are coping with our busy schedule, while the inclusion of Microsoft Teams means we can message each other, share screens and video chat from any location.
Office 365 is more than just Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. It’s enhancing our working processes at every level from answering emails, sharing documents, organising meetings etc. The fact that we use more functions within Office 365 to enrich our working life is making it essential for our team.
