South West Communications Group has added a financial fraud protection service to its portfolio to help shield its customers from the devastating effect of phone hacking.

A recent BBC Radio 4 news item revealed at least 40 UK businesses had reported having their telephone systems hacked in March 2013 alone. The average loss per victim was calculated at £21,000 which would result in a total cost to victims of £840,000 in just one month.

South West Communications Group has been warning its customers about the threat of this crime, also known as toll fraud, dial-through fraud or phreaking fraud, and part of this advice was to invest in financial protection against it.

However, finding this protection proved more difficult than expected.

South West Communications Group’s managing director Harry Langley said: “Our customers were telling us that insurance companies would not protect them against telephone hacking so we sought out a solution to meet this need. We now have a fraud protection service that is available to all our customers that want to shield themselves from this potentially financially crippling crime.”

Other businesses can also take advantage of this service by migrating their telephone lines and calls to South West Communications Group.
