St Andrew’s C of E Aided Primary School benefits from an upgraded telephone system to replace their unsupported, outdated model.


St Andrew’s C of E Aided Primary School is located in Buckland Monachorum on the edge of Dartmoor.


The school business manager called South West Communications Group having worked with us at a previous school. St Andrew’s was using an aging BT Versatility telephone system which was no longer supported. This meant in the event of it failing, it would be very unlikely a repair could be achieved which would leave the school without its main form of contact. The school was also out of contact with BT for their lines and minutes and was keen to seek an alternative provider.


swcomms sent one of our education experts to meet with the business manager to discuss their needs before proposing a replacement Alcatel-Lucent Omni PCX Office telephone system. This ever-evolving solution from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise is perfect for smaller settings like primary schools. It is robust and reliable, with additional features and functions.


The Omni PCX Office gave the school a voicemail solution that could be integrated with their email so any voice messages can be left as sounds attachments on emails for convenient retrieval and to replace paper messages, which are at risk of being lost, tucked into registers.


All incoming calls ring in the main office so whichever member of staff is available can answer the call. The head teacher has a DECT handset in her office to receive transferred calls and she can carry this around the school.  We did advise the school to invest in an extra socket to accommodate their fax machine. Staff had been unplugging one of the handsets every time they needed to use it.


We also took over the school’s telephone lines and now bill for all their lines and their minutes on a single invoice and they can check on their call spend any time by logging onto to our web-based billing platform.


Our service desk is very responsive in the event of a line fault, with agents available from 8am to 6pm on weekdays. These hours mirror the remote support contract of their new telephone system. We advised them that 83% of issues can be resolved without a visit to site so it was the most cost-effective option


We were able to help the school spread the cost of the telephone system with our lease purchase.
