Tor Bridge Primary School in Estover, Plymouth, teaches almost 200 students aged four to 11. They recently joined the Inspire Multi Academy Trust, consisting of Tor Bridge and Ernesettle Community School.
The MAT initially contacted us about the Department of Education’s Connect the Classroom scheme, and it was during one of these early meetings that it became apparent Tor Bridge required assistance with their phone system.
Tor Bridge had previously used a Microsoft Teams solution implemented by an IT support company, but the system was not working effectively. As a result, staff were not getting the most out of the range of features that Teams can provide; even the simplest options, such as using the desktop app to make calls.
We recommended installation of the Microsoft Teams Phone App and organised a meeting with the head of Tor Bridge to run a workshop to demonstrate how Teams can be utilised as an effective and efficient phone system.
With the Phone System app correctly installed, Tor Bridge has the means and the knowledge to make and receive calls from their PCs, laptops and mobile devices, any time and from anywhere, giving staff more flexibility when moving around on site or working remotely.
In addition to this, the school can continue to use their traditional desk-based handsets, optimised for use with Teams, allowing reception and other desk-based staff to continue their roles with minimal adjustments.
Implementation of an automated attendant immediately eased pressure on the busy reception staff by directing callers straight to the correct department rather than waiting in a queue. The school also made use of the Teams voicemail transcription service which allows callers to leave voicemails that are converted into an email and sent to staff to deal with at a more convenient time. This is perfect for the early morning rush when parents report pupil absence.
Additional features, such as the ability to set groups to overflow calls when staff are particularly busy and a choice of ringtones to differentiate between callers, all contribute to assisting the admin teams during busy periods. Tor Bridge also continues to benefit from Microsoft Teams’ standard features by sending instant messages, hosting and joining video calls, and sharing files and their screens seamlessly, all from one simple-to-use application.
Inspire Multi Academy Trust also decided to adopt Microsoft Teams for their phone system at their second school, Ernesettle Community School.
Staff at both schools were provided with full training to ensure that they were comfortable with the solution and could take full advantages of the range of features available.
