Use our data centre to support your virtual private network

In the last few weeks, we have been using our blogs and social media platforms to give businesses advice on work from home solutions to keep them operational during the coronavirus lockdown.

One key element has been the use of virtual private networks (VPNs). These allow staff workers to securely access your office-based servers from their PCs and laptops at home. They can effectively use all their usual apps and access their files.

However, VPNs are usually used by a small number of people at any one time, e.g. a handful of home or field-based workers. The lockdown means entire businesses are now trying to use VPN connections at the same time.

I have spoken to several customers who are finding that the bandwidth supporting their VPN connection is not enough to support whole-business use. This poses a problem. I could advise you to upgrade your internet connection to boost your bandwidth to support all your staff members. However, Openreach are understandably only working on critical projects at the moment, so this option is largely unavailable to you.

We do have a workable solution however. Our data centre has all the multi-homed bandwidth you need to support multiple VPN connections. As a key service provider in this crisis, we are still able to collect or receive your server hardware to host it in our data centre. This will be much quicker than waiting for an upgraded connection from Openreach.

Our data centre is a private facility. You can find out more about it here, but in summary it features include:

  • Managed security access, including an ISO 27001 compliant secure storage area
  • Highly resilient Cisco infrastructure
  • Resilient, clean and smooth power supply
  • Connections from seven carriers via multiple cable pathways to avoid downtime
  • Fire prevention system
  • On-site monitoring

We host multiple servers for several mission-critical organisations, so we can demonstrate pedigree in delivering solutions like this. If your business is struggling with its current VPN set-up, please consider this as a workable solution. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your options.
